Elektronika MK-61 (Электро́ника МК-61) calculator switch repair

My MK-61 Elektronika calculator began to suffer from an intermittent power switch. I found a set of exact replacement switches and replaced the power switch. It wasn't a difficult process with the right tools, and I've done this sort of thing many times with ham radio equipment.

I wanted to document the process here in case any MK-61 owners have this problem.

MK-61 with broken switch and replacement switch PD-9-2

Remove a screw and remove the back cover

Push back the tabs and lift the board

With the main board lifted, you can carefully lift the clock module

The faulty switch is here.

Slide out the charger jack

Verify that the new switch is the correct one

Use solder flux paste to ease removal

A good solder removal tool (and iron, not shown)

Sacrifice the switch to reduce thermal mass; cut ends off and cut them in half as well

After a few minutes, the old switch is freed and we only lost one solder pad, non connected

The new switch looks good on the top.

And good on the bottom.

It works! EGGOG!
