YV5SSB
I heard YV5SSB in Venezuela on 14.255 5x9. Even with my K5OOR Amplifier at 50W or so it took several tries for him to get my call and give me 5x5.

I ordered a SoftRock-40 SDR receiver kit. Now all I need to do is figure out if I can get GNURadio or DttSP to support it.

K2 BFO Range

BFO-cap-mod
I had trouble reaching 1000Hz on the RTTY reverse BFO filter on my K2, and that's the normal filter on the high bands, so when 15M was open I was inconvenienced.

After a mail exchange with Gary AB7MY of Elecraft I received a 2.7pF NP0 capacitor and put it across the crystal junction and L33 to ground on the bottom of the RF board. That lowered the bottom end of the BFO from 4913.22KHz to 4912.36KHz, and without affecting the top end. That was enough to let the BFO reach 1000Hz center frequency for all 4 filters in both R and R-reverse modes.

I tried lifting the resistor on L33 and making sure it didn't short any turns first. Gary said it was probably the crystal batch if I had all the parts right and L33 wasn't shorted.

I hadn't realized you can easily read the BFO range without going into CAL FIL, but it's there in the manual: Enter CAL FCTR and press BAND + for the high end, and BAND - for the low end.

WSN
I checked into the Western States QRP net today at 9am, and the washer flooded just as the net ended. W6SIY Keith was NCS and recognized my call from several months back when I last checked in! Keith was just recovering from a leaky shower. Also on were K6RPN Doug, K6MGO, KY6G Stan, NA7M, W6JHQ Tom, then me, then W6GLP Jerry. I got a 599 from W6SIY Keith in Ridgecrest, CA and W6GLP Jerry in Pinon Hills CA from his G5RV up 32ft. W6ISO John in Moorpark, CA checked in at the end and was weak but I copied him on his K1 and Norcal Doublet. I noticed not everybody was QNZ so a couple of weak stations were out of the RX passband of NCS and got called twice, QSK. The net ended and then I heard a shout that our washing machine was leaking and had to QRT! K2, low G5RV, 5W.

KH6AQ
I set up my KX1 at a new lawn spot behind the school that has 6 metal picnic tables and new grass and used a 6ft wire on the ground and a 24ft wire in a tree about 16ft up and heard lots of signals on 40/30p/20 and answered KH6AQ Warren in Honolulu, HI who gave me a 559 and we talked for about 10 minutes before the QSB got too much for him. Warren was running an Omni Six.
