K5SVC in Jefferson county couldn't hear me on 14.280 with the Drake TR-4C and couldn't with the K2 at 10W but could barely with the K2 and amp at 35W. He gave me a 55. I gave him 59. So I think the mic on the Drake isn't driving the rig enough. Frank.

I worked KK5K in Lee county, MS on 14.268. Used the Drake TR-4C at 100W CW but probably fairly low output with the old mic. The PTT didn't work so I had to use VOX. OM said my audio was fine.

I have two sound inputs on my Linux box -- a motherboard sound input and a Griffin iMic. The Griffin iMic just works fine, but the built-in sound is picky and sometimes won't start. For example, now it's doing output but no input. I heard a PSK station on 40m on the TR-4C my father gave me, but I couldn't get the mic I had to work with the motherboard card. Then I remembered that I'd been having some trouble with the K2 interface job I did, since I just picked the amplified audio out of the audio gain pot, and and it picks up noise on the low end from the room. So I tuned the PSK signal to about 300Hz and used the K2 speaker as a mic, with the K2 off. It works! Not great, as there is some distortion but it works enough to copy about 80%. I really need to install that fixed audio output board that I bought before I got the K2, from W3FPR. I kind of liked the mechanical installation of the EA3BLQ but as he is sadly an SK the boards are not available.

I loaded the Drake up to 100W on 40M with the MN-4, which claimed a good match on its internal meter.

Drake TR-4C
I have the Drake hooked up to the MN-4 for RX only. I need to get a better antenna up and some coax before I can go QRO!

WD8AJF VE6MAN
I went to the Xerox/PARC Emcomm van and used my KX1. I couldn't hear the Peter I DX, just the pileup. The vertical is tuned for the phone band and is quite narrow on 40, but was ok on the high end of 20m CW so I answered WD8AJF, Dan in Ohio at 2329Z, who gave me a 449. I gave him 579. For the sign-off I went to the Kenwood TS-440S, which is a lot noisier but has 100W out. My RST went to 589 but his went down, hihi. Then VE6MAN Al in Edmonton, AB called me at 2345Z and we had a short QSO. Al said it was 37F there, but no snow. We called it quits due to QRN and QSB.
